I am Kathleen Jennette, aka, Mrs. Shecky and the author of this blog. I am a photographer, journal keeper, and a mixed media artist with a soft spot for fountain pens colorful inks, and paper. This blog is where I share creative experiments, everyday observations, and the rabbit hole they lead me down – usually with ink on my fingers and my dog nearby.

Tales From My Lens is my photography blog. I have been blogging since Blogger in 2005 and seem to be addicted to this forum also. It can bring out many people of interests and inspiring people too. Welcome.

The brown ink colors pair perfectly with the Esterbrook Jr. Pumpkin Latte and TWISBI Ecos. Each is a different brown, and they all write wonderfully. Makes me want a cup of coffee. TWSBI Eco in cafe Bronze with an Extra Fine nib. I like it. My first #twsbieco and affordability has me on this one. Clean and simple demonstrator style filled with Montblanc Toffee Brown will work perfect for Autumn journals. #fountainpens #journaling, #oldhandsstudios Many of my old books have decorative edging. The Old World ones seemed to have beautiful gold edging. I thought I'd show you a quick DIY edging. Anyone can do this. I have a Moleskine journal here and wanted to spruce it up a bit for my new Paper Republic XL notebook cover. The product is acrylic Liquitex in Iridescent Gold. I use a finger stamp sponge with it. After setting the notebook in my bookbinder, I just do very light layers until I like it. About 3. Light layers matter because the paint can seep through, and the last thing you want is for your papers to stick together. A little patience goes a long way. But this process is very easy. Just dry thoroughly and flip the pages to release them. I’ve used permanent/waterproof stamp pads in the past. They work too. I just prefer this way. If you don’t have a book press, use the edge of a table and make sure the notebook has weight on it to keep the pages tightly together. I love the way it spruces up my new #paperrepublic. That is a little too porous and may seep into the paper. So using the off-the-shelf notebooks seems to work better for this. Enjoy! #journaling #fountainpens #journals I came across this pen brand on EBay. I have never heard of them. But I just read the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and had to have it. I loaded it with #Diamine Green/Black and it has a splendid write. The brand Le Boeuff has many collector style pens. Since this one is pretty nice, I think I’ve fallen into another rabbit hole. #fountainpens #journaling #ink #journals A new page in my Commonplace Journal. I love the @diamine_official Celadone Cat ink. I think it’s such a great color to use with many types of styles. I found some floral stash from a @tim_holtz collection. Before I knew it, they were blended with some stickers I printed from photoshop using @centurylibrary frames. That’s what I love about this. You can use anything and make it your own art. It’s endless. I did break my glass dipping pen though. 😞 and my old calligraphy nib I have is done. It’s so scratchy my writing took a shlump on this one but again the art of journaling and learning as we go is the fun of it for me. Nothing is an error. Any tips on a good dipping nib for my peacock feather would be appreciated. The Hongdian Submarine M1 pen is filled with the same ink and is a great little pen that is not expensive and yet does its duty well. I love having it in my collection. #fountainpens #journaling #journals #ink #oldhandsstudios Organizing sometimes takes a lot longer when the past shows up. One has to pause to reflect on the moments of that creation that had been hidden away. That’s the fun of journaling. The past finds. This was a travelers insert from a couple of years ago and I half way finished. It’s now on my desk to complete the volume. I couldn’t finish because I was in the middle of testing for a heart condition. And, as it was, I had a triple bypass in January and the recovery has been great. Journals have been a great companion throughout my life and recovery was no different. You have to forgive me on the not-so great media set-up with the camera. It’s all shot from my Iphone and it’s a bit elementary but it is what it is. Collaging in a journal brings another depth to the words.
